Since 2010, António Madeira has been researching, the places in this sub-region, that our ancestors elected as the best for vine, those that we might call the «Grands Crus of the Dão highlands» and found a series of old vines that are distinctive because of the authenticity of their grape varieties, the characteristics and nuances of their granite soils and sun exposures.

2019 was a good year with fresh and ripe grapes. Os Granitos 2019 is the expression of a 100 years old vineyard with great character. We are facing what could be considered as a « Grand Cru » of the Dão Serra da Estrela. In this small parcel we find a great variation of soils, about 5 types of soils, varying the colors and textures of granites in the different areas of the vineyard. The result is a complex, mineral, fine and full of energy wine, showing a classic side of Dão Serra da Estrela.

This wine expresses the character and elegance of the land that witnessed its birth and takes us on a journey through time to discover the aromas and flavours of Serra da Estrela foothills, just as it was in the past. Floral, sappy nose with lovely aromatics. The palate is so fresh, bright, direct and elegant with supple raspberry and cherry fruit with some nice green hints, and even a touch of peachy richness. It’s juicy and bright with good acidity and lovely precision. The tannins are nicely resolved: this has focus and purity and a brightness to it.

A "Grand Cru" wine of Dão Serra da Estrela.
António Madeira, who is French of Portuguese descent, has his roots in the foothills of Serra da Estrela. Vinha da Serra 2019 Red is the expression of a single parcel. A 100 years old small vineyard located in altitude (600m) in the Serra da Estrela, on a hillside facing west. We find here a wonderful balance with altitude bringing freshness and sun exposure to the west bringing ripeness. The fine tannins in the mouth remind the fine texture of the soil. A "Premier Cru" with identity and sense of harmony. This vineyard produces very little. In 2019, we managed only a barrel of 225L of this vineyard. This is the small vineyard in the mountain: just 300 bottles (one barrel).
