Planted over 70 years ago — vines from the 1950s, in what's genuinely an unlikely site for red wine — the vineyard sits at 510–580 metres altitude, on clay loam soil dominated by blue schist. That altitude helps deliver real freshness and balance to the finished wine, and the vineyard is farmed and managed directly by Luís and his own team.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eIt's a field blend of native varieties — Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela, Rufete, Tinta Barroca and others. Fermentation runs on indigenous yeast, using 100% whole clusters, vinified in square concrete tanks with nothing added beyond a touch of sulfur. Maceration lasts 10 days, followed by 18 months' ageing split between 500L French oak barrels and 2500L Eastern European oak casks.
