Freeman Sangiovese Altura Vineyard 2021

$30.00 inc. GST

The Sangiovese grapes were picked in early April and gently basket-pressed after fermentation on skins for five days, before 12 months maturation in old oak.

Freeman Sangiovese is a captivating bright garnet hue with appealing aromas of Morello cherry and dried herbs over a gently spicy frame. The mid-weight palate is plush with rich flavours and underlying ripe fruit, subtle oak and balancing fine-grained tannins.

Rated:93 – WINEFRONT by Gary Walsh
“I’m not that familiar with the wines of Freeman, though I’ve recently become reacquainted with Fremen, having just re-read Dune after about a 30 year interval. Is there any Spice here? Well, perhaps a little. Black plum and cherry, liquorice, some spice and new leather. Medium-bodied, good flavour and weight, but a feeling of crispness and energy here, tannin is compact with a pumice stone grain, and the finish is savoury and bright at once. Very good. Nicely done.”
