Adega Viúva Gomes Tinto Viticultores 2023
The Adega Viúva Gomes Viticultores Tinto 2023 is a captivating village wine that celebrates the growers, vineyards and diverse terroirs surrounding Portugal's legendary Colares region. Produced by one of Colares' most historic estates, founded in 1808, the Viticultores range showcases sites beyond the classic DOC boundaries while remaining deeply connected to the Atlantic landscape that defines the region.
This field-blend combines 70% Castelão, 10% Molar, 10% Tinta Miúda, 5% Ramisco and 5% Touriga Nacional, sourced from young vineyards influenced by cool ocean breezes and the granite and limestone foothills of the Serra de Sintra. Matured in traditional chestnut and mahogany casks alongside stainless steel, the wine embodies Viúva Gomes' philosophy of highlighting place, community and authenticity over hierarchy.
Fresh, energetic and unmistakably Portuguese, this is a beautifully crafted red that delivers complexity, drinkability and a genuine sense of origin.
Wine Description
Vivid and expressive, the Viticultores Tinto 2023 opens with aromas of fresh blackberry, raspberry, summer berry compote, wild herbs, mint, flowers and toasted hazelnut. Beneath the vibrant fruit lies a subtle ferrous character that speaks to the region's mineral-rich soils and traditional winemaking approach.
Medium-bodied and finely structured, the palate combines juicy blackberry and raspberry fruit with bright, pomegranate-like acidity and beautifully textured tannins that carry a distinctive ironstone character. Layers of slate, green olive and inky dark fruit add depth and complexity, while the wine's freshness keeps everything precise and energetic.
The finish is long, savoury and finely gripped, leaving a lasting impression of minerality and coastal freshness. Elegant yet vibrant, this is a wonderfully distinctive red that captures the character of the Colares region and the people who farm its vineyards.

“Fresh blackberry, summer berry pudding, dried herbs and mint, blood and flowers, hazelnuts. It's medium-bodied, crisp and ferrous, the ironstone feel to tannin is very pleasing, a pomegranate crunch to acidity, fresh raspberry and blackberry, lots of slate and fine grip on a brisk finish of excellent length... Just great.”

“A clean and expressive nose, with notes of wild berries, herbs and flowers, quite attractive and perfumed”, with a tender, balanced palate and very fine tannins.
