Antonio Madeira Branco 2021 Dão DOC

The António Madeira Branco 2021 is the estate's flagship white wine, sourced from a patchwork of historic vineyards in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela. Combining fruit from 25-year-old plantings of Encruzado and Bical with old-vine field blends aged 50 to 70 years, this wine captures the freshness, minerality and complexity that define the Dão Highlands.

The 2021 vintage was shaped by significant rainfall during harvest, with more than 100mm of rain falling in September. These conditions resulted in wines of lower alcohol, vibrant freshness and exceptional balance.

A true expression of minimal-intervention winemaking, Branco 2021 was produced without enzymes or oenological additives and fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts. The wine was fermented and matured with 30% in seasoned oak barrels and 70% in stainless steel, allowing texture and complexity to develop while preserving purity and site expression. Malolactic fermentation was completed prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes

Complex and inviting, the 2021 vintage reveals aromas of fresh fruit, wildflowers, subtle lactic notes and granite-driven minerality. The palate is fresh and crystalline, yet remarkably textured, combining saline intensity with impressive depth. Elegant and full-bodied, it finishes long, vibrant and distinctly mineral, reflecting the granite soils of the Serra da Estrela.
