Julien Sunier Morgon 'Les Charmes' Cru Beaujolais 2017

Julien Sunier has gone from rising star to firmly established as one of the best producers in Beaujolais. Following in the footsteps of pioneers like Marcel Lapierre and Jean-Paul Thévenet, he farms organically and biodynamically in the vineyard and works naturally in the cellar. 'Les Charmes' is a single-vineyard selection from his Morgon holdings.

In the winery, Julien works semi-carbonically — starting fermentation carbonically, then pumping over and plunging as in Burgundy, believing full carbonic maceration risks losing the sense of place. Sulphur is added only at bottling. The wines are aged for up to 11 months in 3–9 year old Burgundy barrels, and are characterised by floral aromatics, freshness, purity and real energy.
