Viúva Gomes’ single-varietal Ramisco wine is a testament to the unique terroir of the Colares region. Ramisco, an indigenous grape variety, thrives in this coastal area, where ungrafted vines are planted directly in sandy soils. These vines, some of which are ancient, have been carefully tended by generations of Viúva Gomes winemakers, contributing to the distinctive character of the wine.
Stored in Viúva’s “volt”, the wine ages gracefully, developing an onion skin colour that reflects its maturity. On the nose it offers aromatic notes of raisin cherry and damp earth, evoking a sense of the terroir and history of the region. Despite its age, the wine retains a pleasant freshness and lively tannins, demonstrating the vitality and resilience of Colares wines.

Viúva Gomes Colares Tinto 1969 Portugal (650ml)
So refined and elegant with taut redcurrant and cherry fruit, some spices and also some earthy hints. For its age, this is very pure with elegance and still-firm tannins, as well as keen acidity. Lively grip. So fine. 96/100 WineAnorak
