The intense flinty note somewhat masks the Amalfi-lemon aroma on the nose, but this is just a sign of the wine’s extreme youthfulness and slowly blows off with aeration. In spite of having the typical ripeness for the vintage, this is sleek, racy and salty with a long, crystalline finish. Excellent aging potential. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

The Domaine began in 1985 with the marriage of Geneviève (née Buecher) and François Barmès. This marriage brought together the landholdings of the two families, who had owned vines in Wettolsheim since the 17th century. They decided to start moving toward biodynamic winegrowing with a focus on respect for nature, the living world and the rhythm of the seasons. The Domaine’s 16 hectares started their official conversion to biodynamic growing in 1998 and have been certified biodynamic since the 2001 vintage. In 2011, Maxime took over the reins in the vineyards and winery, continuing the meticulous work begun by François. Supported by Geneviève and Sophie Barmès, Maxime carries out painstaking work, respecting the natural cycles and elements, seeking to produce authentic wines. He is intent on crafting wines with a distinctive personality, imbued with emotion, and deeply rooted in respect for the land of his ancestors.
This ‘Clos’ (42 ares) sits on a 40-50 % slope of granite terrain at an altitude of 350 to 400 meters overlooking the village of Wettolsheim. This stunning setting is surrounded by woodland creating a fresh and cool microclimate. This combination of geological and climatic factors results in a remarkable wine with crystalline and saline notes

Domaine Barmès-Buecher Riesling Clos Sand 2019
A Lieux Dit. Floral, some petrol/baby oil, lemon. Rich, preserved lemon, quite exotic, a little bit of spice, distinct ‘mineral’ feel, quite dry and sandy in feel, with a dry finish and grapefruit pith aftertaste. Very interesting. Different. Excellent.
