The red wines Casal Figueira are produced from are old vineyards of Castelão and Tinta-Miúda (50-60 years old). This wines being Tinta-Miúda for this wine are from our vineyards grow at the South side of Montejunto Mountain, near the Atlantic Coast (20 km), where sandy – clay soil, atlantic climate and these two grape varieties are in perfect adequation for fresh, low alcohol, clairet style reds. Tinta-Miúda (also known abroad as Graciano), although very rare and almost voted to extinction in Portugal, hardly resist in Lisboa region.
The grapes vinification – with the recovery of old manual techniques; grapes are handpicked and carried in small boxes (not larger than 15 kgs capacity), refrigerated during transport. Arriving the winery, are stripped off by hand and poured into small lagars. Then are foot smashed. A short cold maceration is done before fermentation in old french oak barrels. The wine must ages during 8-10 months on its lees, with some bâtonnage. A light filtration during bottling. Natural ferments and no chemical correction. Very low levels of sulphites are present.

Tinta Miuda, from old vines grown in Cadaval, north of Lisbon, or so I believe. Importer: QED
Distinctive, charismatic, and excellent wine here. It’s medium-bodied, chewy, rosehip, blood and earth, with grainy and silty tannin, spiced red berries and a ferrous quality, damp rose perfume, and a long and meaty finish carrying perfume, dried herb and Spanish black olive savoury flavours. Excellent.
